My mother had purchased a television for my father a few days before, and he'd been watching it without ever knowing his old TV had been replaced. She complained to me about his lack of acknowledgement, and when I asked her how she planned to tell him about what he'd done (or hadn't done in this case), she let me know she had a plan. Turns out, her plan was to have me recording her as she revealed to him that he had failed to notice her Christmas gift. The rest, as they say, is history."
