Courtroom Proposal

Occurred on February 7, 2019 / West Palm Beach, Florida, USA

Info from Licensor: "Brandon and Jen met while both prosecutors in Palm Beach County. They were both recently single when they met and immediately became fast friends. Since they worked together when their fast friendship became romantic, they were very quiet about their office romance, or so Jen thought. When the two would go out with mutual friends and begin to drink, Brandon would start to confess his love for Jen, just not to Jen, to everyone else. For about two months, their not-so-secret relationship grew in private until they both realized how real and big this was. They ultimately moved in with each other less than a year of dating which both say was the best decision they ever made. Two and half years later, they’re blissfully living in downtown West Palm Beach with their Havanese puppy, Billie. While Brandon is still a prosecutor, Jen moved to the civil private legal world. On February 7, 2019, Brandon asked Jen to watch him in a big DUI trial, which she said she’d try to make. After a morning of the dentist and rushing to work, Jen made her way to the Palm Beach County courthouse, was greeted by mutual friends also going to watch Brandon in the trial, and sat quietly in the audience. The judge came out, asked if everyone was ready to proceed and called for the jury, just like in every other trial Jen had either been in or seen. As she stood and waited for the jury came out, she soon realized this was unlike any other jury panel she’d seen. In walked a man who resembled Brandon’s father and then a man who looked like Jen’s father. As confusion set in, Jen saw her sister, quickly understood what was happening, and almost immediately began to cry. In walked 17 family members and mutual friends who watched as Brandon stood up and gave the most loving and prepared opening statement of his life. He spoke of how those in the past described love and then described it himself. He conferred with co-counsel to retrieve the ring and asked Jen to join him. Jen cried her way up to the middle of the courtroom where Brandon went down on one knee and popped the big question. Through tears of joy, Jen nodded and fell into Brandon as everyone cheered. The judge proceeded to sentence Brandon “to life.” Of course, it was all caught on video: from the genuine surprise on Jen’s face and tears to the big question! The main reason Brandon planned the proposal for when he did was so that his grandmother and pseudo-mother could see the event before she dies. Brandon’s grandmother, who’s 82 and was struggling in her fight against breast cancer, was able to make it with her husband of 62 years. They got to see their first grandson propose to the love of his life, believing the mantra “one and done” like his grandparents. On March 27th, 2019, Ellen lost her battle to Inflammatory Metastatic Breast Cancer.

Additionally, Jen’s father and sister were present, who although so happy for this big event, held the memory of Jen’s mom who passed away almost two years ago from her fight with cancer.

As fate would have it both Jen’s Mother and Brandon’s Grandmother died on the same day March 27, two years apart.

Both families struggling to stay positive were able to celebrate the love these two were lucky to find."
