A Frozen Lizard's Journey to Recovery

Occurred on January 11, 2020 / Wellington, Florida, USA

Info from Licensor: "Joe is a wild lizard who lives in my backyard and for the last three years has been coming around for lunch everyday. He likes to share a salad with my pig Blue. When I’m late to feed them lunch Joe waits by the door. We have grown to love Joe, even though he is just a common lizard and many say an invasive species but as our followers have said... the only thing Joe has invaded is our hearts. On Christmas Day, Joe could not handle the cold and froze. He probably would’ve been ok but as I was checking in on him, my pig Blue accidentally stepped on him. I immediately tried to do what I thought was right which was to warm him up and bring him inside where he would be safe. Joe was not acting right and I thought he might have a fracture after he wouldn’t move properly for a few days, so I took him to an exotic vet. I said goodbye to Joe, as I was worried that the vet would say euthanasia was his best option. However, the vet was AMAZING, she said she thought he had a chance and it was worth a try. I agreed to do whatever we could to help Joe. The Vet performed a laser treatment for him to help with inflammation, washed out his eyes, dewormed him, and sent me home with food and medicine to syringe feed him daily. Currently Joe is getting an anti-inflammatory and pain reliever daily and showing very small signs of improvement, not many but it is a slow process. Our main concern is that he might have some nerve or brain damage, in about a week I will be taking him back to the vet to see if indeed he is improving. We are doing everything we can for Joe, he might be just a common little lizard but this guy has managed to touch hundreds of thousands of hearts.
