Snail Eats a Crab

Occurred on March 1, 2016 / Playa Grande, Costa Rica

Info from Licensor: "I used to work on a Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas in Costa Rica. This is a world famous nesting beach for sea turtles, but one day I discovered that other interesting animals can also be found here. These carnivorous snails are found on beaches throughout the Pacific coast of Central America. They move slowly through the wet sand until they encounter a potential prey item at which point they pounce. After grabbing their prey, they force it toward the back of their pseudopod (foot) which forms a large pouch that will eventually engulf the food item. The snail will then bury itself into the sand where it will enjoy its meal in peace."
