Wolf Pack Wanders Across Yellowstone Road

Occurred on October 11, 2020 / Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA

Info from Licensor: "In May, we lost our Mom and our family has been devastated. Our Mom loved to travel and never was able to visit Yellowstone before she passed. We decided to visit our Mom’s sister and family, Ted and Ann, who live in Helena, Montana, something our Mom planned to do. Traveling was my sister Leah Bedell and my dad, Michael. While there, we drove down to Yellowstone for the weekend hoping to see some great wildlife. On Saturday, we drove through the western side of Yellowstone and we saw a few buffalo and many elk. We were a little disappointed at the limited sightings but happy for what we did see. On Sunday, our plan was to drive back to Helena, but after visiting the Wolf and Grizzly Discovery Center in the morning, we decided to stay one more night and drive to one of the valleys to see if we could find more wildlife. From the minute we entered the park, we started seeing animals. We saw large herds of buffalo and elk. We were even lucky enough to see a Great Horned Owl. We were on a high as the snow was falling and the sun was going down. As we started back toward the hotel, we were reliving the great sights that we saw throughout the day. As we approached a slight curve in the road, we saw something run into the woods. We slowed down and thought it could be a wolf, but soon realized there were possible wolves running in the woods on our left. We were so excited even though we weren’t 100% sure we even saw a wolf. At this point, we were slowly rolling down the road when a black wolf ran right in front of us from the right side of the road. At this point, we knew there were many more than just the one. The lone wolf was following the others into the woods. We couldn’t believe what we were witnessing. Just then to our amazement, we saw a black wolf come back out of the woods to cross the road, followed by several more. Luckily, we had our phones out from the first sighting. Kristie was the only one of us who had the forethought to video the encounter while the rest of us screamed and enjoyed the unbelievable experience. Uncle Ted could be heard counting the wolves, while Aunt Ann was screaming 'Oh My God'. We knew what we were looking at because we had been to the Discovery Center in the morning and knew that seeing this pack in the wild was a once in a lifetime experience. After the last gray wolf jogged across the road and disappeared into the woods, we knew that was the grand finale of our day."
