Pole Misses Driver by Inches After Impaling Car

Occurred on February 17, 2021 / Post Falls, Idaho, USA

Info from Licensor: "I was driving on my way to school at around 7:25 am. There had been a winter storm warning for a week or so but we still had to go to school. The road was covered in ice and I was slipping the whole way to school until I finally gained traction and was going under 30 in a 45mph zone. I came upon a Jeep Wrangler in front of me when I started slipping again, and the Jeep started to brake. I tried to brake but I couldn’t slow down because of the ice on the one-lane road. I could have gone into oncoming traffic, hit the car, or try to veer to the right on the shoulder of the road. When I chose to see if I could safely veer to the right and avoid the Jeep, I was pulled down by the 8 inches of snow on the road into the ditch where there was one house on the field and I crashed into the fence where the top pole impaled my car windshield, into the dashboard and out through the air vent all the way to the back seat. It was less than six inches away from my body where I could have seriously gotten hurt. However, I was lucky enough to walk away without a scratch."
