Rare Sighting of Crocodile in Sebastian, Florida

Occurred on November 2, 2022 / Sebastian, Florida, USA

Info from Licensor: Tiara Weethee found this rare American Crocodile on the beach just south of the Sebastian Inlet, by the McLarty Treasure Museum, in Florida, at sunset. She thought it was a gator needing help to get back into fresh water, but wasn’t sure what she should do once she realized it was a crocodile. Knowing that crocodiles live in salt water, she left it be and watched it lay on the beach and swim in the ocean for almost an hour until the sun went down. There are around 1400-2000 American Crocodiles living in the wild of South Florida, and it is very rare to see an American Crocodile almost 200 miles north of Miami. The crocodile showed no aggression and would go back into the water anytime Tiara got within 40-50 feet of it. There is information about the American Crocodile on the FWC website, but there have been no reported crocodile attacks in the US. Contact Tiara Weethee with any other questions or concerns.
