Occurred on October 18, 2016 / Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia
Info From Licensor: "I was driving along Hume Street in my home town of Toowoomba, on my way to a store. I merged into the right hand lane as I approached a marked pedestrian crossing. A young lady had already completed crossing the two lanes heading in the opposite direction, and I saw her on the refuge island about to cross onto the road. As I am unable to predict a pedestrian's awareness or speed, I slowed to a stop and gave way to her crossing. The pedestrian waved to me acknowledging that I had stopped for her and proceeded into the crossing directly in front of my vehicle. In my state, it is required that drivers give way to pedestrians using a marked pedestrian crossing. As she began to cross, I noticed a Blue Toyota Corolla hatch back approaching at speed (approx 50-60KM/H) in the left hand lane, travelling in the same direction I was. The driver appeared to be unaware of the stopped traffic at the crossing, or of the woman crossing the road. The woman crossing was focused on crossing the road and appeared to be unaware of the vehicle approaching. I reacted and sounded my horn in an attempt to warn either the pedestrian or the blue car approaching of the imminent collision about to occur. It appeared that this may have had some effect, as the pedestrian seemed to hesitate when I sounded my horn, and was able to see the oncoming car and stop in time to avoid being in the path of the blue car.
The blue car driver seemed to not react at all, as no brake lights are evident at any time during the near collision with the pedestrian. The pedestrian seemed shaken but was able to cross safely to the other side. I exclaimed "Fu*k me!" at the near miss towards the end of the video, and reported the incident to the local police that same day."
