Occurred on February 12, 2022 / Tampa, Florida, USA Info from Licensor: Five was rescued from Freeport, Bahamas after category 5 Hurricane Dorian. Hurricane Dorian pummeled the island of Grand Bahama for 48 hours with maximum wind speeds of 185 miles an hour. It was an unprecedented storm. One of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded. That is why I named him Five because he survived a Cat 5 hurricane. I am a disaster responder for several national and international disaster response teams. We respond to assist communities with animal issues and rescues after a disaster. I was at the destroyed airport in Freeport. It was, as always after a disaster, total chaos at the destroyed Airport. A young, seriously injured cat limped into the parking lot. We picked him up and took him back to the Humane Society of Grand Bahama while we arranged evacuation for him and the remaining animals that survived the storm. With the help of several partner agencies, we were able to evacuate Five and 189 other animals from the local Humane Society that had survived the storm. I was still working on the disaster. I called in a few favors from friends and they picked him up from the airport in Florida, drove him to the Veterinarian where they did surgery to repair his leg, and neuter him. They took him home and cared for him while he recovered until I was able to return home. He recovered well and has spent the last two years entertaining us with his antics. He travels all summer in our RV with us and our two Bahamian rescue dogs, Paul and Martha. He is fearless, curious, and full of mischief. I have responded to disasters all over the world and throughout the United States for the past 20 years. I was never tempted to bring an animal home until I saw Five. I knew when I saw him that this was our cat and I was right. His only real fears are rain and wind and will become very clingy when that happens. Other than that he’s a very independent cat.
