Occurred on July 25, 2018 / London, UK
Info from Licensor: "I’m a cyclist who commutes through London 5 days a week. I see a lot of terrible driving on a daily basis, and the behavior of people on the roads is often horrid and violent.
This incident, though, was the closest I have come to seeing someone actually die. Of the cyclists who have been killed on London's roads, this is the primary way it happens. When large vehicles and vulnerable road users are asked to share the same streets, problems are likely to happen.
This lady was cycling on her merry way and was heading straight at this junction. The lorry was intending on turning left and as they approached the junction their speeds matched perfectly. It was noisy, so she didn’t hear it coming. I had to yell at the truck driver to stop, with shouts of increasing volume and urgency.
I was fully expecting to see her be killed and it would have been the most terrible thing to happen. This sort of event is a regular occurrence, and that same day a woman was left disabled under the wheels of a cement mixer that ran her over on her bicycle."
