Info from Licensor: "I park frequently in The Pier underground car park in Cairns City. I was returning to my car after having dinner with friends on Sunday when I used my remote car key to unlock my car. To my complete shock, my remote car key also unlocked another Nissan Micra in the aisle near my car. My car is the pink Nissan Micra the other car is the white Nissan Micra. After using the remote car key to lock and unlock both cars several times to be sure, I went over to the other car and opened their passenger door to see that I really had unlocked their car. I didn't think about whether I could turn on their engine, but if I had I would've been very nervous to try it in case they came back and saw a stranger in their car. I am pretty concerned now that another person could not only access my car but also possibly turn on my engine and drive away. I went back to my car, unlocked it, got in, locked it (so I could leave the other car locked also) and drove away. ABC Brisbane picked up on the story from my Facebook video about it and they contacted many locksmiths to find a solution. I had replaced my car key about 10 months earlier after losing my car at a local Cairns locksmith. I didn't replace with a genuine Nissan car key because of the extremely high price they wanted to charge for a genuine key. I thought because the local Cairns locksmith key was clunky and not branded that was why it was cheaper. However, it still cost me $200AUD which I thought was overpriced for a new key, given I still had the spare key to cut from. I feel like had this other car not been in my line of sight when I unlocked their car as well as mine, I wouldn't have known I had done it because as you can see in the video the cars unlock and lock at perfect timing. It has been suggested by locksmiths that it was because the car key remote I bought is of a lower quality and fewer codes are available so it is more likely for multiple cars to open under one key, although still rare. I didn't think when I bought the key at the lower cost that I could possibly be compromising the security of my car or that this could happen. I don't know if this is the truth or not behind why it happened. It was just pretty interesting and surprising when it did occur!"
