Info from Licensor: "In 2017, a small group of ornate Diamondback terrapins were given to Garden State Tortoise (turtle and tortoise breeding and rescue facility in southern NJ) after being rescued by authorities from a horrid, illegal situation. It took nearly two years to bring the animals back from the brink of death. Sadly, some of the adults did not make it despite every effort made to save them. In spring 2019, two of the surviving females laid eggs. Out of the 15 eggs, only 1 lucky egg proved to be fertile which resulted in it hatching. This special little turtle is living proof that humans can make a difference even after our own kind has caused such harm to wildlife. We are happy to report that the baby is beautiful, healthy and thriving."
