Info from Licensor: Evelina Aranka Szucs was born with unilateral hearing loss. Her newborn screening test came back inconclusive for her left ear. At first we thought nothing of it and figured it was an error, as the midwife said not to worry because there's a lot of reasons why a test could be inconclusive. We went to see the audiologist around 8 weeks post partum. The test was only supposed to be an hour or so, but we were there for 4 hours. Upon receiving the results immediately after testing, I was in shock. I had no clue how to compartmentalize all this new Info. I never once thought my daughter could have hearing loss.
After a couple of days we did a zoom meeting with the audiologist, speech therapist and counselor. Her hearing loss is permanent, and we've come to terms and have grown to love it about her. She wears a cute, pink, small hearing aid in her left ear and will need it for the rest of her life. It's quite possible it could worsen or she could loose hearing in both ears. We are hopeful her hearing will remain in the same condition. We are thankful every day for the newborn screening. Evelina has been wearing her hearing aid for nearly a month now and loves it! As you can see in the video, even the first time she wore it she accepted it well. She thrives with it. The video was taken at Wildrose Audiology nearly a month ago on Aug 17th. She is currently 4 months old. We have yet to discover the cause of the hearing loss. We will hopefully find out during her ENT specialist appointment in a month or so.
