Car Destroyed by Fire

Occurred on May 26, 2018 / Langley, Berkshire, UK

Info from Licensor: "On route from our home to Langley we exited the M4 motorway junction. As we approached the first main traffic lights opposite Toby Carvery restaurant on London road we noticed smoke was coming from our car and initially thought it may be the head gasket. After the engine was turned off, my husband Leroy picked up his phone to call for assistance, but then we noticed another driver had pulled over across the road and was beeping his car horn. He was shouting to get out of the car, it is on fire. We then opened our car doors to see flames coming from under our feet. We both jumped out of the car. We opened the boot to grab some belongings and moved away from the car. I called an ambulance immediately. The fire spread very quickly and there were several loud explosions including the tyres bursting. The diesel fuel then began to leak down the road in the direction we were escaping from the car for abut 100 yards. The fuel was on fire shifting viscously with the wind. The fuel was running down towards five empty cars that would have also caught fire if it wasn't for the fire brigade. The neighbouring houses were evacuated during the blaze as the fire seemed it was likely to set fire to their homes. Fortunately the fire brigade were installing fire alarms on the same road and had seen the fire. They arrived in around five minutes of our call. Their speedy arrival certainly saved lives, homes and further vehicles."
