Mesmerising Lion’s Mane Jellyfish

Occurred on December 7, 2023 / Mooloolaba, Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia

Info from Licensor: "This beautiful Lion's Mane jellyfish was spotted at the wreck of exHMAS Brisbane. This jellyfish is a captivating marine creature and one of the largest jellyfish species. It has a striking appearance, characterized by a vibrant, deep orange or red color and a thick mane of long, hair-like tentacles that resemble a lion's mane. Notably, there was also a school of juvenile whiting among the tentacles of the jellyfish. These fish are immune to the jellyfish venom and use poisonous tentacles for protection from predators. Despite its formidable size and the reputation gained from the Sherlock Holmes story, the sting of this jellyfish is not lethal to humans but can cause discomfort."
