Occurred on October 14, 2017 / Ceylon, Saskatchewan, Canada Info from Licensor: "I was driving out Southwest of Ceylon Sask archery hunting for Mule deer. As I drove down a grid, I spotted something white tangled in a barbed wire fence. At first glance, I thought it was a plastic grocery bag. Once I drove up beside the fence, I realized it was an owl. I walked up to the owl to find it was still alive and active. I proceeded to speak to the owl to try and keep it calm. I then tried to untangle the owls wing. I struggled to free the owls wing for about five minutes with no success. I ran back to my truck and retrieved my knife. After I struggled for nearly ten minutes, I had no choice but to cut it's wing loose. As I cut the skin and flesh away from the barbed wire the owl fell upside down. I then pulled it's claws free from the fence and the owl fell to the ground. Not knowing the condition of the owl, I decided to pick it up and carry over to the bottom of a hillside. I placed the injured owl on the ground in tall grass out of the wind. I continued on with my hunt for another 2 hours or so. Just as the sun started to set I started to wonder about that poor owl. I decided to drive back to the area where I left the owl. I walked up to the exact spot and found the owl still sitting there. I then realized that I had to do something as it was not going to make it if I left it there. I called Sask Wildlife rescue hotline. I was told to bring the owl back with me if at all possible. I luckily had an old laundry basket in my truck.I dropped the owl off at the rehab center. I have recently spoke with the center and the lady from the Wildlife hotline. They said that the owl is doing great, there are no broken bones, only bruising and minor flesh wounds. I was told the owl is very fiesty and is recovering well. I will stay in touch to hear the outcome and will be planning a visit to see the owl. All in all, a great experience and a beautiful owl saved."
