Occurred on June 8, 1963 / Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, USA Info: "JFK landed in Hawaii and went to the Navy base to lay a wreath at the memorial in Pearl Harbor. At the base, people gathered along the main road to see the president as he drove by. We brought lawn chairs to wait and when JFK was approaching, my dad stood up on one of the lawn chairs with his home movie camera to begin filming. Mom was holding the chair to keep it steady. JFK was sitting up on the back of an open convertible. When JFK got near, Mom suddenly ran out into the street. She dodged between the line of motorcycle police and ran up to the president, reaching her hand out to touch him. He smiled and reached out and touched her hand as she went by. My sister and I held the chair for Dad. I was four years old and my sister was eight. Mom didn't want to wash her hand." - Darrell Walters
