Lava Oozes Out of Volcano in Iceland

Occurred on March 21, 2021 / Geldingadalur, Reykjanes Peninsula, Iceland Info from Licensor: "I was reporting on a volcanic eruption in a valley called Geldingadalur in Iceland when I filmed this video. The eruption had then lasted for 16 hours and the lava was just crawling down the lowest point of the valley. You could stand close to it for a few seconds before it was too hot, like standing close to a huge bonfire. There are toxic fumes from the eruption but if you look and listen closely you will realize that we had a strong tailwind that blew all the fumes away. The beeping sounds you hear in the video are from the gas detectors the rescue team had. In the video, you will see people next to the crater but that is forbidden today. The crater is on a magma chamber that stretches to the northeast and southwest. Scientists worry that another crevice will open up above that chamber and lava could flow from there. This was in the back of my mind when I stood there observing these events. Scientists don't know how long the eruption will last but the magma coming up is from the earth's core, 15 to 20 kilometers deep, and it's the most primitive magma that has reached Iceland´s surface in 7000 years."
