Occurred on March 2, 2018 / Squaw Valley Ski Resort, Olympic Valley, California Info from Licensor: "March 2 at 1:35PM Terrifying Squaw Valley Avalanche A much needed storm has hit the sierras and we knew it was going to be a great powder day. Then what sounded like a train coming through the woods, suddenly the whole area filled with a huge cloud of snow that cut visibility to near zero. It took us a few seconds to realize what was happening, that this was the dreaded ‘Avalanche’ that every skier has always feared. As the cloud of snow slowly dissipated, an eerie silence fell over the area, quieter than the silence you normally hear in the woods. This silence was then broken by the sudden screams and cries for help. Looking down into the area, I could see a small child with a yellow jacket, screaming and then someone pulling him out of the snow. Then directly below us people started screaming for help, so Joe skied down into the area to help, it was too step for me. As soon as Joe got to the bottom, a skier who was about 30 feet above him, started yelling that someone was buried there. They uncovered his chest, then his face finally came into view. Brushing away the snow from his mouth and nose he noticed his lips were blue and his face was pale. He didn’t look good. Suddenly, thank the Good Lord, he opened his eyes to the relief of all and they gathered around him. We pulled him out of what could easily have been his grave, sat him up and just then his wife made it up the hill to him. She was partially buried and for her to get away from her sunken snow board, she had to take her boots off. As she ran up to her husband crying with both fear and joy, they noticed that she was in her stocking feet. By then Ski Patrol had their dogs and beacons working, so Joe decided to take off and find me. Patting Evan on the back, Joe said to him, “Evan, today is your lucky day”! The couple reunited were Evan and Kahylynn Huck, and so thankful to all who helped to save Evan."
