A Mesmerizing Lion's Mane Jellyfish
Posted by:
Andrii Slonchak
Occurred on December 7, 2023 / Mooloolaba, Queensland, Australia Info from Licensor: "This Lion's Mane jellyfish was spotted at the wreck of exHMAS Brisbane near the town of Mooloolaba at Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. This jellyfish is one of the largest jellyfish species. It has a striking appearance, characterized by a thick mane of long, hair-like tentacles that resemble a lion's mane. Notably, there was also a school of juvenile whiting among the tentacles of the jellyfish. These fish are immune to the jellyfish venom and use poisonous tentacles for protection from predators. Despite its large size and the reputation gained from the Sherlock Holmes story, the sting of this jellyfish is not lethal to humans but can cause discomfort."
