Occurred on June 6, 2018 / Bimini, Bahamas Info from Licensor: "Adult lemon sharks (Negaprion brevirostris) venture into the shallow waters of Bimini, Bahamas each year to give birth during the summer, and in doing so many lemon shark nurseries are formed. Remarkably, some adult mothering sharks return to the exact same nursery to give birth to their young, that they themselves were born in. This is known as natal philopatry. These juvenile sharks are often seen hugging the mangrove trees and roots for protection, particularly at high tide, as they hope to avoid predators such as larger sharks and barracuda. These habitats are an important nursery ground for these sharks along with stingrays, lobster, conch and an abundance of fish and other life."
