This lemon shark is sitting on the bottom of the ocean with his mouth open, allowing a small remora to go inside his mouth and clean his teeth of little bits of food! Remoras and sharks have a symbiotic relationship that people rarely get to witness. The remora keeps the shark clean and free of parasites, while the remora gets a free ride from the shark and leftover food- known as a symbiotic relationship. This lemon shark has no interest in competing with the tiger sharks in the background, seemingly only interested in having a free cleaning from his remora dentist! As a shark scientist, I often observe these behaviors when scuba diving."
