Occurred on April 27, 2017 / Maroubra, NSW, Australia
Info from Licensor: "We were riding north along Avoca Street early on the morning of 27th April 2017 when a car merged through our bunch creating a gap. Shortly after this, we heard a large crack from a branch above our heads. I realised that the branch was falling and tried to sprint under the falling branch. It grazed my lower back, but unfortunately collected the rider behind me and he fell to the ground. The fallen rider hit his head and suffered a concussion. The car that split the bunch also received an impact from the branch and stopped. It the turned out that the driver of this car was an Emergency Room Nurse who immediately drove the fallen rider to the nearest hospital. The rider was not seriously injured and was back on his bike 2 days later. Fortunately the split cause din the bunch by the merging car meant that the riders in the 3rd row were not affected at all. A lucky escape from a freak situation that could have easily been much worse."
